Inquisitive minds at the ready for this brilliant and thought-provoking extravaganza.
What can you tell from a picture? What assumptions do you make? Where does your imagination go? Can you tell what the boy is hiding behind his back? And what do the tortoise in a wheelchair and ostrich have to do with things? Which lady do you think robbed the bank? Why have you come to that choice? Speculate your heart away with these twenty questions and their endless possibilities…
Sparse words make for clever questions in this quirky book that is huge on creativity and imagination and offers endless possibilities. Barnett’s often simple yet intriguing questions and Robinson’s colourful artwork work in perfect harmony to challenge readers to use their imaginations, curiosity, and to speculate freely and wildly as no answer is invalid here.
Some questions cannot be definitely answered, there is no right or wrong and this idea is played upon through twenty of them that range from the quirky to the playful to the deep and meaningful. Whether contemplating how a cow ended up on top of a wind turbine, debating which of two gentleman has the better singing voice, or pondering who is on the other side of a door that leads into a snowcapped mountain, children are demanded to think differently and to jump outside of the proverbial ‘box’.
The concept of this read may be a little too abstract for some, especially those who want clearly defined beginnings and ends. Best shared by an adult with a group of children or child, this is essentially a book with twenty discussion prompts and what fantastic conversations could be had. Children are brilliant at creating stories and coming up with the most fascinating of thoughts and I can only imagine the kind of wonderful ideas that would be generated from such varied and thought-provoking stimuli.
A genius conception, superbly executed and one that I think is absolutely brilliant! Recommended for 4+. With huge thanks to Walker for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review.
