Hi there...
I am a primary school teacher whose teaching career has been put on hold due to M.E. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). One of my passions as a teacher was and is promoting great books and instilling a lifelong love of reading into children.
Let me say this now, books are brilliant! I love reading and like nothing more than snuggling up with a good book. I’m always trying to search out the next new book to read and recommend. I always have an online basket full of books ready to order and my local library has become my new best friend. My ‘to be read pile’ never seems to get any smaller but you can never have too many books. The beauty of books is that they can take you anywhere. One day you’re in the rainforest relocating a lost little bee and the next day you’re flying on an airship heading to a place that no-one has ever explored before. Books are a wonderful world of possibilities and the endless power of imagination, and for me there is no such joy as the joy that can be found in a book. And this is a joy that all children should experience. I truly believe there is at least one book out there for every child, and we are all responsible for helping children find books that inspire and instil a lifelong love of reading. As a child, I remember being obsessed with the Beano annuals - every Christmas there would be a book-shaped present under the tree and every year I would be filled with excitement at opening the latest annual and then spend Christmas day reading it. Arnold Lobel’s Frog & Toad Adventures and the Famous Five were also firm favourites. Now I look forward to new releases from the likes of Katherine Rundell, Jennifer Killick, Pip Bird, Onjali Q. Raúf, Emma Carroll, Michelle Harrison, Vashti Hardy, Abi Elphinstone, Pip Jones, M.G.Leonard, Nizrana Farook, Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, Yuval Zommer, L.D. Lapinski, Christopher Edge and many others. With so many books to choose from it can be difficult to make the right choice. It is our responsibility to make sure children are given access to the book that meets their needs at any given moment. I hope my website will support you as parents, schools, teachers and librarians in finding the books for your children that will develop a lifelong love of reading. As Dr. Seuss says, “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax all you need is a book.” Matt Wilson, January 2021 |
