Something very important is happening tomorrow, little brother is going to school for the very first time. Luckily, big brother knows all about school life and has made a list of everything important. Lots of new and exciting things await, from friends and fun to learning and lunches, teachers and toilets to sand pits and sports days. It’s time for a family camping trip and Aunty cannot wait to paint a fantastical Australian beast. There’s just one hitch…Aunty cannot remember what it is called. It’s not a roo, a bird, a wombat, a dragon or a snake. As her wonderful descriptions get more bewildering the family start to question if such a thing actually exists. Will the mysterious creature reveal itself before the family head home…
What’s the buzz about stingless bees? There is a lot to get excited about when it comes to these harmless little insects and Megan Daley amazes and astounds in a fascinating read.
Willow loves visiting the native stingless bees at her school. Thanks to groundskeeper Tom she has learnt all about colonies and hives, nests and honey, pollen and plants. All of this knowledge is going to be really useful as after a year of waiting Willow will soon be getting her very own hive and colony of bees to take home. Hive day is finally here and the splitting of the hive can begin... Everyone is invited to experience the Lunar New Year and to understand what it means to those who celebrate.
It’s the eve of the Lunar New Year and one boy is excited to join in with the celebrations that Baba says have happened across the world for thousands of years. The lanterns are out, decorations have been hung, delicious food has been made, the house has been cleaned and everything is ready for the arrival of the dragon. A knock at the door…could it be the dragon that everyone has been waiting for… I’m not a huge reader of fantasy but I will read anything by Katherine Rundell (I have recommended The Explorer and Rooftoppers - one of my favourite ever reads - to countless children and they are always well received). I was hoping to finish my mammoth reading year of 2023 on a high and there was plenty of hype and plaudits to suggest that Impossible Creatures would deliver. Did I save the best to last…yes, I quite possibly did.
