The Super Adventures of Ollie and Bea is a fabulous series of colourful graphic novels for readers of five plus. Bunny Ideas and Otter-ly Ridiculous are the latest two titles in what is now a six book collection.
Bunny Ideas Bea is super excited as she has an awesome plan for Ollie and all of their friends. Gummy Carrot, 5-Circle and the Hop-Stacle Course should mean a day of fun and playing together. But when bossy Bea with her very specific rules and must-win attitude takes the fun out of playing, it looks like it will be a gaming disaster. Can Bea learn to have fun with her friends or will she be left hopping mad…
Otter-ly Ridiculous
Bea loves to play Hide-and-Squeak. She is the absolute best at it and is determined to show Ollie just how good a hider-and-squeaker she can be. When Pedro turns up full of bravado and how great he is the game descends into chaos, nobody wants to play and everyone is in a huff with everybody else. Ollie and Bea need to cheer everyone up and get the animals talking again but how can they do it if they’re not speaking to each other…
Two more belters in the Ollie and Bea series that will delight young readers and have them giggling away as the two friends and the rest of the Super Team play, squabble, fall out and make up again. Told over six chapters, supercharged with silly jokes and animal puns, and brilliantly illustrated, these accessible and thoroughly enjoyable reads are a glorious introduction to the wonderful world of graphic novels.
Playing games often results in arguments and fallings out, particularly around taking turns, rules, fairness and winning. Lessons and messages on all of these things are conveyed brilliantly in both stories. And whilst there is never an easy answer to gaming dilemmas, Ollie and Bea exemplify the importance of finding solutions to problems, overcoming challenges, dealing with disappointment and the ability to compromise. Having fun with friends is far more important than winning anyway! With huge thanks to Allen & Unwin for the copies I received in exchange for an honest review. Recommended for 5+.
