A panther with an identity crisis discovers that he is unique and wonderful in his own special way in another spellbinding picture book from Poonam Mistry.
Surrounded by lush greenery and spectacular animals, Panther prowls the depths of the rainforest, spending his days chasing butterflies and frolicking in fish-filled streams. The forest brings much happiness but Panther often feels alone. He isn't like the other cats; Tiger has bold and fearless stripes, Lion’s mane blazes like the sun and Leopard has spots that dazzle. Panther feels like he has nothing; he hasn’t even summoned the courage to climb to the tops of the trees. Despondent and low on self-esteem, Panther goes in search of that elusive thing…identity. And what he discovers will be life-changing…
Being different and standing out from the crowd can be difficult and this heartfelt and stunningly illustrated story of finding yourself, acknowledging your strengths and being comfortable in the skin that you are in is a gorgeous lesson in learning to love ones self and not trying to be something you are not.
Powerful, meaningful and timely messages are an essential part of this profound fable but it is the sublime artwork that will have jaws-dropping and eyes agape. Each page, offering something more mesmeric and breath-taking than the last, will be met with oohs and aahs in what is one of the most beautifully illustrated and visually striking picture books that I have had the privilege of reviewing.
A very special book. With huge thanks to Allen & Unwin for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review. Recommended for 6+.
