He’s been to Paris, London, Roma and Australia. Now Mr Chicken is off on an adventure that is quite literally out of this world. Mr Chicken had seen a lot of places but as he stared up at the night sky he realised there was somewhere he had not visited and he desperately wanted to go. With a shiny new spaceship full of home comforts, mod cons and Boris the rocket builder’s important guidebook, Mr Chicken was ready for an interplanetary adventure. Will he go further than any chicken has gone before? Are the inhabitants of Mars ready to meet a big yellow bird? And what about those household chores… Mr Chicken is a fabulously fun character and children will love joining him on his latest exciting adventure that reveals the thrills and perils of exploring new horizons, meeting people/martians and definitely being out of your comfort zone. Gadgets and gizmos galore and an abundance of space-tech jargon, that may or may not be real, will satisfy the appetite of STEM-loving kids and provide inspiration for designing rockets complete with solar cell subcarriers, turbo pumps and asteroid alarms. Leigh’s creative storytelling and hilarious artwork - I love the expressions on Mr Chicken’s face - zoom readers along and before you know it you’ve splashed back down in the ocean…staring straight into the jaws of a hungry shark, obviously! Revelling in silliness, the intrepid Mr Chicken continues to bring smiles to readers of all ages, including this one. Don’t miss the endpapers which feature a very frazzled and grumpy protagonist plagued by household chores at the beginning and a cheeky alien blasting through space at the end.
Recommended for 4+. With huge thanks to Allen & Unwin for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review.
