The need to be aware of and carefully nurture the mental health of young children has never been more important. Step forward Mini & Milo, a delightful elephant and rabbit combo who are here to develop resilience, positivity and a growth mindset.
Lots of things are tiny in Mini the elephant’s life. She has a tiny bedroom, a tiny bed, a tiny dollhouse, and best of all, a tiny best friend named Milo who dreams of being magician. Mini also has a big secret…there’s a tiny voice in her head. Sometimes the voice is helpful, supportive and encouraging but at other times it can be mean, gets her into trouble, brings on self-doubts and whines all the time. When the voice in her head gets too much, she decides it has to go. Try as she might the voice will not go away. But maybe it doesn’t have to. Can Mini find a way to embrace the little voice in her head…
Filled with emotional intelligence and adorable characters, The Teeny Tiny Voice is a sweet, relatable and helpful exploration of the subconscious mind. Most of the time the voice in Mini’s head behaves - it is positive and encourages the right choices. But what happens when the voice brings out its mischievous side? Well, Mini gets into a bit of a pickle and has to learn to control the voice and not always listen to its negative thoughts. Something that is easier said than done when mini Tiny is determined to make itself heard. Courageous Mini is determined to silence the negativity though and although several of her plans to escape the voice fail, she finds the perfect solution - a list of ‘Big Rules for Teeny-Tiny Voices.’
As something that isn’t tangible, the subconscious can be a difficult topic to explain to young children. This book does an excellent job of it and having Mini’s subconscious represented by a smaller, invisible version of herself - depicted as a ghostly line drawing, allows readers the chance to see something that cannot be seen.
With valuable life skills and lessons this is a great picture book to share with young children and will help them understand that little voice in their head that can sometimes become overwhelming. Importantly, it helps children understand that whilst the subconscious will always be there it can be controlled. Everyone can manage their inner-mischief-maker with the help of Mini and Milo. A great start to a new series and I look forward to spending more time with this helpful duo. Recommended for 4+. With huge thanks to Walker for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review.
