Start of December which means I can get properly excited about Christmas. I have started the countdown to the big day by opening my advent calendar and snuggling up with this fabulous festive read.

Tog Harket is a one-hundred-and-sixty-year-old, unemployed, loser elf who lives with his parents and his four younger siblings. He dreams of becoming a Christmas Elf, making toys for Father Christmas at his lodge in the Arctic Hills. Tog’s reality is somewhat different; he needs to get the siblings ready for school, clean the house and do the shopping.

When he finally gets the chance as one of Santa’s Toymaking Elves, all his dreams have come true. But making toys is a tricky business and someone is up to no good. If there are to be presents for the children on Christmas Day, Tog needs to stop a thief from stealing the toys and ruining Christmas…

Have yours-‘elf’ a very merry Christmas and dive into the festive season with this brilliant story from Ben Miller. Written in the form of a diary, children will love reading about Tog’s eventful life as he gets his dream job as a toy-making Christmas Elf, gets relegated to cleaning out the reindeer stables before having to summon up his s-‘elf’-determination to save Christmas.

Sprinkled with mischief and humour, Diary of a Christmas Elf is a great little read for the holiday season that will warm young-hearts. With its lovely messages around bravery, kindness and gift-giving, it is perfect to get you into the Christmas spirit! And if you do happen to meet a Father Christmas with a criss-crossed candy cane tattoo, probably best to report him to one of the elves as he might be up to no good.
