Say hello to the blobfish, widely regarded as the ‘World’s Ugliest Animal’. They also happen to be highly entertaining and full of life, you just need to spend a bit of time getting to know them. And one particular blobfish is determined to prove that every one deserves to have a friend. Deep, deep, deep down at the bottom of the ocean lived Blobfish. All alone with no one to pass the time with, Blobfish amused himself with his jokes. Everywhere Blobfish looked, other animals had friends to play with. Determined to bag himself a friend, Blobfish finds an awesome friend up near the surface. The new friend might not say much but it has the best dance moves and it and Blobfish make the perfect pair. But this new friend has a dangerous side and when Blobfish becomes trapped inside the plastic bag, he is in serious trouble and in desperate need of help. Will Blobfish be freed in time? Will he find the true friend he dearly wants? Delightfully illustrated and littered with amusing speech and thought bubbles, this heartfelt and humorous ocean adventure of a lonely and rather sad looking fish’s search for friendship is a brilliantly executed picture book from comedian Olaf Falafel. Blobfish is fun, funny and at its heart is an important environmental message that can be accessed and understood by the youngest of readers. Themes of making friends and having that important sense of belonging also swim to the surface in a story that had me smiling and laughing from first page to last…it is blobbily good fun!
With huge thanks to Walker for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review. Recommended for 3+.
