Following in the footsteps of Narwhal & Jelly and Elephant & Piggie comes another animal duo that will delight young readers. Meet Archie & Reddie, two foxes who love having fun together. The first two titles in the series, ‘I Really Dig Pizza’ and ‘We Will Find Your Hat’, have been released simultaneously with books three and four due to be released later this year.
In book one Archie cannot believe his luck when he stumbles upon a gift-wrapped pizza in the forest. Who would leave such a tasty treat unattended? Archie does what any sensible fox would do and buries the treat under a pile of dirt ready for his dinner. But when Reddie discovers the same pile of dirt she is determined to find out what lies beneath. Oh no! Will Archie be able to keep his cheesy treat a secret or will Reddie solve the mystery of the pile of dirt…
In the second book it is ‘Hat Day’ and Reddie is bursting with excitement to go the party. But when she arrives at Archie’s she is met with terrible news, Archie has lost his favourite hat. No problem though as Reddie is awesome at finding things and is sure the two hat-hunters will have found it in no time. Unfortunately, Archie’s house isn’t exactly tidy and Reddie hasn’t a clue what the hat looks like! Will they ever find Archie’s hat or are they going to miss the party…
Crammed full of humour, silliness and slightly awkward situations, the delightful duo serve up some cracking entertainment and make for a brilliant introduction to the wonderful world of graphic novels. There are plenty of awkward moments and tricky situations but like all good friends they help each other out, forgive and forget, with everything working out all right in the end.
Large panels and easy to read speech bubbles - that are colour specific to each character - will help emerging readers follow the story and the expressions on the faces of Archie and Reddie leave no doubt as to the emotions the foxes are feeling. Very much looking forward to reading future titles in this series. With huge thanks to Harper Collins for the copies I received in exchange for an honest review. Recommended for 4+.
