These two new picture books from Affirm Press are perfect for story time with the little ones in your life.
This Is Love; Zanni Louise, illustrated by Sasha Haddad The Beatles once sang ‘All You Need Is Love’, and this beautiful ode to that warm, giddy feeling is a glorious celebration of the many ways that love imparts itself in our daily lives. Love is your name I write in the sky. Love is a hug without asking why. Love hides in pages and cartwheels down hills. Love flies on rugs and perches on sills.
Love takes many forms and Zanni Louise and Sasha Haddad explore lots of these in this sweet and colourful picture book. From finding love in hugs and body ink to the love that is found lying in the grass, having a picnic with family or being cared for when unwell, love really is all around within these pages.
Told in mellifluous rhyming prose and with smiling faces beaming from every scene, each page will have young hearts bursting with love and warmth as love in its many different ways is celebrated.
A delightful gift for the little loved ones in your life and a perfect picture book for sharing together.
Pocket Treasure; Wenda Shurety, illustrated by Juliana Oakley
Children’s pockets are more often than not filled with the most random assortment of things and Pocket Treasure is a joyous celebration of all those things that little ones like to collect. Allira loved her yellow dress with the two pockets. They were just perfect for keeping Teddy Ed safe, for storing yummy snacks and for warming hands in winter. Best of all though, they were excellent for holding all of her special bits and bobs. In her pockets she has everything she needs. But when her pockets are empty and she wants to decorate her teacher’s birthday cake, will her friends be able to come to the rescue… The delights of finding things in your pockets are championed in this heartwarming picture book with lovely messages around friendship, helping others, being kind and sharing.
Little ones will love meeting Allira and many will instantly recognise themselves in a shared love for pocketing treasures. In her yellow dress and with a wide, beaming smile, Allira is a wonderful young girl who epitomises what it means to be a good friend with her treasure-filled pockets coming to the rescue throughout the day as classmates and a teacher are on the receiving end of her generosity.
A great read for story time before having a look in pockets to see what your little treasures have collected. With huge thanks to Affirm Press for the copies I received in exchange for honest reviews. Recommended for 3+.
