We have all had one of those terribly annoying itch’s that we cannot quite reach to scratch and the Bear in Victoria Cassanell’s debut picture book has the worst kind of itch…”A Grizzly Itch: An unBEARable itch which you cannot reach.”
When Bear is abruptly awoken from his long winter sleep by a grizzly itch he sets off to his favourite tree to have a good old scratch. Disaster strikes when the tree crashes to the ground mid-scratch…Bear isn’t the only one who likes trees. Despite being the cause of the impromptu tree crashing, Beaver sets out to help Bear find the perfect tree but there doesn’t seem to be one that is quite right. With the grizzly itch making Bear ever more unhappy, Beaver needs a plan and fast. Can Beaver come up with a solution to turn Bear’s frown upside down…
I am absolutely in love with this adorable picture book about the most loveliest of bears who has the most annoying and unBEARable of itch’s. The simple and engaging narrative has lots of important messages for young readers. Bear and Beaver teach the reader about sharing, kindness, problem solving, working together and how wonderful it can be when you help others. And the result of all this is a wonderful friendship. Cassanell has provided her own beautiful illustrations which are a celebration of nature and the natural world in their shades of green and brown.
Perfect for sharing with children of pre-school age.
