Omu is very much looking forward to the stew that she has been busily preparing for her evening meal. It has been carefully seasoned and tenderly stirred and it tastes incredible. As the scent of the delicious stew drifts out of the window it tickles the noses of the people in the neighbourhood and soon Omu is opening her door to all of the visitors who have followed their noses and are desperate for a taste. Big-hearted and kind Omu is more than happy to feed the mouths that arrive at her door but when it is time for her dinner she finds that the pan is empty. What will she do?

A story that is full of heart, kindness and the power of community. Many of the people in the neighbourhood are drawn to Omu’s front door desperate for a taste of her delicious cooking. She is more than happy to oblige until she finds that her pan is empty. With Omu facing the prospect of being without an evening meal, the visitors from earlier return to her front door with the most delicious of feasts. I love that perhaps the most powerful and important gift is the card that Omu receives from the young boy. Sometimes, “Thank you,” is the most wonderful gift of all.

The book features brightly coloured cut-out artwork that is bold and vibrant.
