My Friend Earth is a celebration of all the wonderful and incredible things Mother Earth does. Mother Earth sees, hears and feels everything - the birds, the insects, the people, the animals. She watches over the lands, the oceans and the skies. She brings the rains, the winds and sprinkles the snow and then waits for the return of the warmer days of spring. In the book, Mother Earth is represented by a gorgeous young character who slowly awakes from a winter nap before embarking on a wonderful journey as she cares for the Earth.
The book is beautifully presented with cut-outs and peek through holes to see what patterns and colours are on the next page. The artwork is superb, if you are familiar with Francesca Sanna’s work then this will not come as a surprise. I love the use of the earthy colours which just add to the celebration of nature and Earth.
The text is short, simple and wonderful. The poetic prose make you yearn for each of the seasons and reminded me why I love each season so much, choosing a favourite is never easy - do I prefer those crisp winter mornings with a delicate layer of frost glistening in the sunlight or do I prefer the first signs of spring?
A wonderful book for exploring nature and the seasons and a lesson in why Mother Earth really is the very best of friends.
