Franklin and Luna are proof that books can take you anywhere, and if you happen to be a flying dragon then you can take books everywhere!
Franklin adores his cave, it is warm and snug and best of all it is full of books. Franklin loves to read in the light of the day and at night he reads by the by the light of fireflies or sometimes the moon. Franklin loves to share the stories he reads but strangely no-one in the village is ever around to listen and when he does find a person they quickly disappear. But one day Franklin meets a girl who loves stories just as much as he does and she also love dragons and together they come up with a plan to bring the joy of books and stories to the town-folk…
This is a delightful story and the illustrations by Katie Harnett are beautiful. All Franklin wants is someone to share the stories he reads with but all of the town-folk are scared and fearful of a dragon. But when Franklin meets Luna he finds someone who accepts him for who is, in-fact she is thrilled that he is a dragon as she is reading a book with a dragon in it! Franklin and Luna delight in conversation over their shared love of books as they excitedly talk about everything they have recently read about from secret islands to treasure hunts, to acrobats to sword fighters, to flower arranging to making apple pie. And together, Franklin and Luna take the magic of books and story-telling to the town-folk as as they set up a bookshop right on Franklin’s back.
A wonderful story that is a celebration of the power of storytelling and the magic of books and with the message that you should never judge a person, or in this case a dragon, by their cover.
