Konnie Huq returns with another brilliant book bursting with humour and heart and a totally relatable protagonist that I could totes be best mates with.

Cookie’s birthday is coming up and she has loads of plans for the most awesome environmentally-friendly themed birthday party, everything will be recyclable and there won’t be a single-use piece of plastic in sight. Perfect.

But then Suzie Ashby, ‘the most annoying girl in the world’, steals Cookie’s idea and invites everyone to her own super ‘Save the Planet’ party on the exact same day…aargh! To make matters worse, a certain birthday present has Suzie desperately wanting to be Cookie’s new BFF and before long Cookie is trying to be someone she isn’t and has lost her two best friends. Can she win her friends back and save the planet…

The loveable, over-the-top and dramatic Cookie is back and this time has to deal with disastrous birthday parties, fake best friends, the F Factor and inconvenient fasting. Konnie Huq understands what makes children tick and delivers an absolutely hilarious, laugh-till-your-belly hurts story of LOL’s, BFF’s, NBFF’s, fears, multiculturalism and the importance of looking after the planet.

I love Cookie, she is one of those kids that always has the best intentions but somehow things never go quite as planned and very often get much more complicated. As with most situations that kids find themselves in, things always get worked out in the end and there are plenty of laughs, and a few tears, along the way.

Written from the perspective of Cookie, not an emotion, feeling or thought is left out as the trials and tribulations of the life of a ten-year-old pore out in brilliant writing and accompanying cartoons and doodles. By the end of it you’ll feel like Cookie is your new best friend, just be careful that she doesn’t ditch for you for the ever-popular Suzie Ashby.

An abundance of additional content includes a delicious campfire hash recipe, the science of the ‘fire triangle’, an A-Z of nature scavenger hunt, instructions for building a mini-beast hotel and some fun things to do with flowers.
