Borgon the Axeboy and the Dangerous Breakfast; Kjartan Poskitt, illustrated by Philip Reeve18/8/2019
Borgon lives with his mum and dad, Fulma and Fulgut. They are the last barbarians living in the Lost Desert. After being told by his parents that he needs to be a more real Barbarian, Borgon sets out to prove his Barbarian-ness by making the Best Barbarian Breakfast Ever - it just needs to have two special ingredients…fun and danger.
He must journey to the Fire Lands, the home of the most nastiest creatures in the desert. Only problem is he doesn’t know the way and his annoying and nosey neighbour Grizzy has decided to tag along too. When things get a little bit too hot for comfort the duo will have to learn to work together if they’re going to make it back alive… Packed with dangerous adventure, savage barbarians, axes and fiery dragons this delightful short story will entertain young savages with its slapstick humour and mismatched pairing of Borgon and Grizzy. To help readers get to grips with the story there are character profiles and a map at the beginning before the action gets going. The chapters are short, the text is nicely spaced out and there are black and white pencil illustrations throughout. This is a great read for children who are growing in confidence and beginning to read chapter books. Recommended for 6+.
