Everyone knows the story of how Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall but that isn’t the end of the story. In this whimsical story find out what happened next…
Humpty loved watching the birds from up high on the wall but after the accident things changed. Although he was was repaired for the most past by the lovely doctors and nurses of kings County Hospital, some things were not quite healed. Bandages and glue are able to mend bones (or in this case egg shells) but broken minds are a bit more complicated to fix.
Humpty went about his day but he was nowhere near as happy as he was when he was atop his wall. Life was just a bit dull down on the ground and Humpty felt like he was missing out. Even shopping had become a nightmare as he couldn’t find the courage to reach the brightly coloured delicious cereals on the top shelf. One day Humpty has an idea and is determined to change his ways. Can Humpty climb to new heights…
This is a delightful read about the aftermath of Humpty’s great fall. It explores how memorable incidents, trauma and accidents can often lead to fears and how these fears then impact our daily lives. Humpty is determined to overcome these fears and through his actions the reader is shown the benefits of finding a solution to a problem and being resilient, especially when you do not get it right the first time. Dan Santat tells a great story for children who struggle with overcoming fears and anxieties and his illustrations are great.
You don’t need to be remembered for getting knocked down, be remembered as the one who got back up.
