Monster is hungry but the fridge is empty. In such a situation there’s only one thing for it…reach for the takeaway menu and order yourself a delicious cheesy pizza. Whilst Monster does not have a fridge full of food he does have a phone and he knows just the number to call to order a tasty and satisfying meal. Or does he…
This book comes with a warning, ‘It may make you laugh your socks off’, and it certainly does. Monster! Hungry! Phone! is a wonderfully chaotic and silly read that follows one very hungry, and soon to be hangry, Monster trying to accomplish the simple task of ordering a pizza. Such a thing would seem relatively straight forward but Monster finds it to be much more complicated as phone call after phone call sees him speaking to a variety of characters all of whom are either too busy, too tired or not in the right stratosphere and most definitely do not offer a pizza delivery service.
With each passing page, Monster gets more and more frustrated and it looks like he will be going without. Even when Monster does manage to get hold of the pizza place there’s one final twist in store but you’ll have to read for yourself to find out whether Monster’s hunger problem is solved.
This story is designed to be shared and read, or even better, shouted, out loud. Bold, bright illustrations accompanied by large, simple and often rhyming text will keep young readers engaged, have them laughing their socks off and probably desperate for a pizza of their own. Sure to be a hit with hangry toddlers everywhere! With huge thanks to Bloomsbury for the copy I received in exchange for an honest review. Recommended for 2+.
