Isadora Moon lives with her fairy mum and her vampire dad and she is little bit of both, a vampire fairy. She loves being a vampire fairy and spends her days playing with her Pink Rabbit. Isadora has reached school age and is surprised to discover that even vampire fairies have to go to school. But which one? Mum is sure that fairy school with lessons in wand waving, ballet dancing and making flower headpieces would be just perfect. Dad thinks that Isadora would be much better at vampire school and learning about flying, bat training and vampire grooming. But what happens when neither school is right for Isadora, surely there is a school that celebrates people for who they are and where being different is a wonderful thing…
Oh Isadora, you are the loveliest of vampire fairies. In her first fantasy adventure, Isadora has to deal with the challenges of not really fitting in and trying to find the place where she truly belongs. You really feel for her as she struggles to fit in at either school and finds herself suffering disastrous lesson after disastrous lesson. A happy resolution sees Isadora find the perfect school to go to, it is the very one that the children in the funny uniforms that she watches walk past her house everyday go to.
Black and white illustrations generously sprinkled with pink bring an extra dash of magic to the book. They effortlessly convey the frustrations that Isadora feels at not fitting and the many humorous events that occur during her school experiences.
